Welcome to the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Smart Solution, an initiative, within the FUTURAL project that focuses on creating sustainable and innovative strategies to tackle water-related challenges posed by climate change.
The FUTURAL project, an effort involving governmental and local organizations, is dedicated to implementing smart solutions that boost resilience of different European regions. On the climate adaptation and mitigation domain, two distinct modelling approaches are used to reduce the impacts caused by floods and droughts in two agricultural pilots: Birda Municipality (RO) and Westhoek (BE).
At its core, FUTURAL prioritizes Nature-based Solutions (NbS) as part of flexible and robust adaptation strategies to cope with the effects of climate change on hydrological extremes. With an in-depth understanding of the local water systems and their challenges, active stakeholder engagement, suitable numerical modelling approaches, and actionable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for assessing strategy effectiveness and communicating with local communities, the project embodies an innovative and inclusive approach.
FUTURAL exemplifies innovation by creating environments where nature and communities can coexist harmoniously despite the challenges posed by climate change. Through this endeavor, we strive towards creating a future where climate adaptation and mitigation efforts become tangible realities safeguarding ecosystems and societal well-being in the long run.
